With a total area of about 2.51 million square kilometers of which 2.4 million square kilometers is land area, Sudan is the largest country in Africa and of course COMESA, and the tenth largest in the world. It is dominated by the Nile and its tributaries and has a population of approximately 40 million.

The Sudan is endowed with diverse natural resources which include arable land; water; minerals such petroleum, natural gas, gold, iron, lead, uranium, etc. Sudan’s economy, which is one of the fastest growing economies in the world, is booming in the backs of increases in oil production. But still agriculture production remains Sudan’s most important sector in terms of employment and contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

The Sudan is one of the diverse countries of Africa. It has 597 tribes that speak over 400 different languages dialects. It is also home to rain forests, swamps, mountain ranges and desert.
